KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysia’s capital clinched the top spot for micro travel destinations for a one-night stay in Asia, while Penang, the country second largest city ranked ninth, according to booking made on digital travel platform Agoda, during the first five months of this year.
Agoda Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei, Fabian Teja, said cities like Kuala Lumpur and Penang offer a mix of accessibility, cultural richness and affordability, making Malaysia a regional hotspot for short term adventures.
“Today’s travellers are finding smart, flexible ways to explore, even with limited time. Micro-travel allows people to break from routine and recharge without the need for long holidays or detailed planning.
“Destinations like Kuala Lumpur and Penang demonstrate how a single night away can offer rich, memorable experiences that feel just as rewarding as longer trips,” he said in a statement.
According to Agoda, Seoul bagged the second place in the list, followed by Taipei, Manila, Pattaya, Jeju, Nagoya and Kohsiung, while Surabaya claimed the 10th place.
Agoda described Kuala Lumpur as an ideal destination for a 24-hour urban escape, offering attractions such as the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, bustling night markets, and vibrant street food culture.
Agoda said micro-travel continues to appeal to modern travellers seeking quick and cost-effective escapes that require minimal planning. – BERNAMA
