SEPANG: Two days after Malaysia Airlines issued an advisory on possible baggage handling disruptions at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1, the situation appears mixed, with no widespread disruption observed but isolated cases reported.

A check on social media, particularly within a Malaysia Airlines-focused travel group, indicates that several passengers have not experienced any noticeable delays in receiving their checked baggage, suggesting operations are largely running as usual.

However, not all travellers have had the same experience.

Some users shared that their checked baggage did not arrive at their final destination as scheduled, indicating that the earlier technical issues involving the Baggage Handling System (BHS), operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, may have affected certain flights.

Others, who are scheduled to travel in the coming days, said they remain cautious following the airline’s advisory, opting to take preventive measures.

Among them, passengers are packing essential items such as medication, important documents and basic necessities in their cabin baggage – a step earlier recommended by the airline.

While the overall situation does not point to a major system-wide disruption, the combination of smooth experiences and isolated delays reflects some level of inconsistency.

Malaysia Airlines, in its April 20 statement, said it was working closely with MAHB to resolve the issue and minimise inconvenience, with ground teams on standby to assist affected passengers, including facilitating delivery of delayed baggage.

As of press time, there has been no official update confirming whether the technical issue has been fully resolved.

For now, the situation at KLIA can best be described as stable but not entirely without hiccups — enough for some travellers to remain on alert.
