THE HAGUE (Netherlands): Ground staff of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines threatens to go on strike if the air carrier does not respond to a union’s ultimatum demanding that wages be raised by 14.3 per cent, reported Sputnik, quoting the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (FNV) on Thursday.
“FNV demands that wages be raised by 14.3 per cent to offset inflation in 2023 and automatic wage indexation in 2024. The ultimatum that FNV delivered to KLM expires on Thursday, September 14. If the management does not do anything by then, a strike will follow,” FNV said in a statement.
KLM has earlier offered a 9 per cent wage increase over two years, with the possibility of an inflation adjustment of up to 2 per cent by January 1, 2025. However, FNV said the collective labour agreement that KLM offers to ground staff is “totally inadequate on many points”.
The union added that the proposed wage increase is insufficient as employees continue to face worsening working conditions. – BERNAMA-SPUTNIK
