PAKAN: Community leaders and village leaders (KMKK) here have been urged to step up their role as community mobilisers at the grassroots level by organising more activities that encourage interaction, cooperation and participation among residents.
Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said a more proactive approach in revitalising community activities is important to ensure that residents continued to have opportunities to gather, exchange views and undertake joint efforts.
He said the role of KMKK should not be limited to managing community affairs, but should also be reflected through active involvement in planning and mobilising various activities in their respective villages.
“KMKK must always look for opportunities to revitalise activities in their respective villages so that the community has more opportunities to gather, interact and work together,” he said this when speaking at a dinner organised by KMKK Sugai at the Pakan Community Hall recently.
Mawan, who is also advisor to the Premier’s Office (Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development), added that continuous community participation in local activities would also help strengthen community ties and create opportunities to identify matters that could be pursued collectively.
At the same time, he reminded KMKK and the community to make social activities a platform to preserve the uniqueness of Pakan’s culture and heritage so that they would continue to be known and appreciated by the younger generation.
He said efforts to highlight local culture needed to be strengthened through continuous programmes and community participation to ensure that the heritage was not sidelined amid social changes.
Mawan also stressed the importance of making unity, mutual respect and cooperation the foundation of every effort to develop the community.
