KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Cooperative (KOBAGUS) is planning a housing development project in Bako involving approximately 10 acres of land.
To advance the proposal, KOBAGUS chairman Mortadza Mantrang led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss matters related to the project’s implementation, including challenges posed by the hilly terrain.
Mortadza said the terrain in the area requires more detailed planning and higher development costs, including the construction of retaining walls to ensure the housing project can be carried out in an orderly manner.
“That is why we met the Sarawak Premier to seek assistance in addressing these issues so that the project can proceed.
“Whatever the solution may be, we are relying on his wisdom in handling the matter,” he told a press conference after the courtesy visit at Satria Pertiwi Complex, here today (June 9).
It is understood that the 10.4-acre site has been proposed for the development of 105 housing units comprising single- and double-storey terraced houses, with the development plan to be submitted to the State Planning Authority (SPA).
In a related development, Mortadza said KOBAGUS is also exploring the possibility of acquiring additional nearby land for a proposed smart city development.
He said the proposal has the potential to become one of the pioneer smart city projects spearheaded by a cooperative in Sarawak.
