KUCHING: The newly officiated Kompleks Satria Pertiwi stands as a symbol of Sarawak’s stronger and more secure administrative governance.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the building, now housing the Sarawak Cabinet Secretariat, serves as a centralised seat of government and is equipped with advanced security features to safeguard the state’s operations and critical documents.
With the state Cabinet now operating from the facility, he said it allows for better planning and long-term strategies to shape Sarawak’s future.
“This complex reflects the strength of our administration. Now that the Cabinet is based there, we can better chart the future of our state.
“You have to be futuristic and that requires a shift in mindset,” he said when asked about the building’s significance after officiating at the opening of Datuk Amar Juma’ani Bridge last night (Aug 5).
Kompleks Satria Pertiwi, which was officially launched on Aug 4, has been dubbed Sarawak’s “White House” by the public due to its architectural resemblance to the official residence of the President of the United States.
The complex features a three-storey main building flanked by two double-storey wings, and was purpose-built as a secure administrative hub for Sarawak’s highest-level government functions.
In February, Abang Johari said the decision to construct the complex stemmed from growing concerns over the security of the current state administrative centre, Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
He said Wisma Bapa Malaysia’s accessibility to the public posed a security risk, especially as confidential state documents and decisions were being handled there.
“Since government secrets are housed there, a safer and more secure location is necessary,” he said at the time.
