KUCHING: The Royal Malaysia Police Cooperative Sarawak Berhad (KOPODIMS) has reaffirmed its commitment to be one of the state’s leading cooperatives, as it celebrated the opening of its 74th annual general meeting of delegates at the Mulu 5 Hall, Raia Hotel & Convention Centre here on Jun 21.

Officiating at the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saifullizan Ishak expressed confidence that KOPODIMS would continue to grow from strength to strength and achieve even greater success in the years ahead.

“Cooperatives are organisations that protect members’ welfare and improve their economic interests by providing necessary facilities and services, with membership as their foundation based on cooperative principles.

“I believe that if the cooperative movement is developed in a more organised and effective manner, the cooperative sector can become a more dynamic economic contributor to national growth.

“Careful planning is necessary to ensure that KOPODIMS’ governance is maintained at a high standard,” he said.

He lauded KOPODIMS for its notable achievements, including its ranking as the 10th best cooperative in Sarawak and among the top 350 cooperatives nationwide.

He also highlighted its previous accolade as the Best Credit Cooperative in Sarawak.

In his address, KOPODIMS chairman ASP Joe Edmund Durong highlighted the importance of unity and ambition as driving forces behind the cooperative’s progress.

He reported that for the financial year ending December 2024, KOPODIMS recorded a net profit of RM1,170,578.22, with total accumulated assets amounting to RM32,964,080.90.

From this profit, the cooperative plans to distribute a 16 per cent dividend to its members, comprising 10 per cent on share capital and 6 per cent on subscription fees.

Beyond its credit services, KOPODIMS also offers various member-centric programmes including a consumer credit scheme, Umrah and Holy Land pilgrimage arrangements (for Muslims and non-Muslims respectively), and financial assistance for tertiary education.

The cooperative operates an Incubator Centre at its headquarters in Kuching, offering 14 rental rooms for use by budding entrepreneurs and small business operators.

Also present at the event were Sarawak Malaysia Cooperative Commission Senior Assistant Director Rizal Ismail, senior officers from the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), district police chiefs, formation heads, and KOPODIMS delegates from the southern zone.
