KUCHING: The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) paid a courtesy call on the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China here recently to discuss plans to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
The delegation was led by the council chairman, Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, and aimed to explore a proposed MPKS visit to Kunming, China, scheduled for April 2026.
The visit would build on existing ties following the signing of a Letter of Intent in 2024.
The Chinese Consulate General welcomed the proposal, with both sides also exchanging views on potential collaboration to promote Kunming’s culture and traditional cuisine at the Samarahan Food & Cultural Festival.
Discussions further covered information-sharing on sustainable urban development and city management, and how such exchanges could benefit both China and Sarawak as a whole.
