KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap attended a stakeholder engagement meeting with engineering and design consultants, community leaders and utility providers.
Law Wee, deputy director of Sarawak Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), arranged the meeting to brief and discuss the implementation road map of the approved Flood Mitigation Plan for Stampin Resettlement Scheme, which is estimated to cost RM350 million, which will resolve the flooding issue that residents have endured.
According to a media statement, Phase One of the project will involve widening the main road and constructing concrete drains, including the access road to the proposed new Chung Hua Middle School No. 4, which DID have set a timeline for consultants to complete the design and engineering plans by the end of 2025 to allow tender process.
Datuk Richard Wee, a representative of Chung Hua Middle School No. 4, and their consultants gave their planning briefing on the proposed construction of the new school on five acres of land at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.
Yap has urged relevant agencies, including the Public Works Department (JKR), DID, and the Council of the City of Kuching South (MBKS), to proactively remove earth drains to prevent flash flooding.
As part of his 2021 election manifesto, he pledged to address flooding issues at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme and remains committed to fulfilling that promise.
