KUCHING: Three new community projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2024 have been approved for the Kota Sentosa constituency here, with a total funding allocation of RM490,000.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the funding, approved by the Office of the Premier of Sarawak, will support infrastructure improvements in Kampung Stutong Melayu and Kampung Stutong Iban.

“The projects include the construction of a new multipurpose hall in Kampung Stutong Melayu at a cost of RM250,000, upgrades to the village hall in the same area under Phase 2 of development, which includes the addition of toilets and a storage facility at RM200,000, and further improvements to the village hall at Kampung Stutong Iban at a cost of RM40,000,” he said in a statement today (Feb 15).

The announcement follows the successful completion of previous RTP projects in Kampung Stutong Melayu and Kampung Stampin Baru, which were implemented in response to community requests.

Upon receiving confirmation of the funding, Yap visited the project sites alongside officers from the Public Works Department (PWD), which will serve as the implementing agency.

During these visits, Yap met with village heads and development committee representatives to discuss the scope of the projects and finalise work specifications.

He stressed the importance of prompt action, urging PWD officers to swiftly complete the scope and bill of quantities to ensure the projects can proceed without delay.

Yap said his service centre, in coordination with the village leaders and PWD, will oversee the implementation to ensure timely delivery for the benefit of local residents.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government for its commitment to improving rural communities through these initiatives.

“Kota Sentosa has much to catch up on compared to other GPS constituencies due to underdevelopment in the past. However, with continuous people-centric projects under the RTP, we are making steady progress towards upgrading facilities and infrastructure for our community,” Yap said.
