BINTULU: Kenyalang Pickleball Central (KPC) Bintulu has been officially recognised as Sarawak’s first pickleball development centre.

The recognition by the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) establishes a structured pathway for pickleball development, beginning from the state’s central region.

The accreditation reflects SSC’s confidence in KPC’s ability to meet required standards, including governance, facility quality and the implementation of long-term development programmes aligned with Sarawak’s sports development agenda.

Operating as a premium indoor sports facility, KPC provides a safe and high-quality environment for community participation, structured training and phased talent development.

In conjunction with the recognition, Alvin Chan was appointed by SSC as its first pickleball coach, based at Kenyalang Pickleball Central, creating a formal certification pathway for coaches and strengthening grassroots development of the sport.

In a statement, KPC Bintulu said the recognition marked a significant milestone in strengthening the pickleball ecosystem in Sarawak.

“This recognition formalises Kenyalang Pickleball Central’s role as an SSC-accredited development hub, supporting long-term growth, credibility and sustainability of pickleball in Sarawak,” it said.

The statement added that KPC currently operates 14 indoor pickleball courts fitted with MAPEI Professional Sports Flooring, supporting continuous training programmes, talent development and community engagement.

Under SSC’s guidance, KPC will focus on key initiatives including grassroots development, certification pathways for coaches and referees, school and community outreach programmes, as well as development-oriented tournaments and events.

KPC also expressed its appreciation to SSC and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) for their continued support in advancing pickleball development, particularly in central Sarawak.

“We remain committed to nurturing grassroots participation, providing structured training and building a sustainable development pathway to ensure the growth of pickleball in Bintulu and Sarawak as a whole,” the statement said.
