KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has uncovered dubious activity at a petrol station here today afternoon (Apr 20).

KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin said officers detected a lorry in suspicious circumstances at about 2.30pm while conducting a static inspection.

Diesel and equipment worth RM23,797.50 were seized during the enforcement operation at a petrol station.

“Checks at the rear of the vehicle found two intermediate bulk container (IBC) tanks concealed in the cargo area.

“The diesel is believed to have been obtained from an unauthorised source,” he said in a statement.

A total of 650 litres of diesel, estimated to be worth RM1,397.50, was found stored in the two tanks.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods under suspicious circumstances.

If convicted, individuals may face a fine of up to RM1 million or imprisonment of up to three years, or both.

Matthew said KPDN would continue monitoring petrol stations identified as high-risk areas to curb diesel misappropriation.
