SIBU: Upgrading works worth RM1.3 million at Jalan Kampung Kedada here are expected to begin next month and be completed by the end of this year.
Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Minister, who is also Dudong Assemblyman, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, said the project would involve road elevation, widening, construction of road shoulders and premix surfacing to improve accessibility and reduce the impact of flooding.
He said that Kampung Kedada had long been a flood-prone area, where narrow and deteriorating roads as well as ageing wooden bridges continued to pose safety risks to residents.
“Through continuous efforts and persistent appeals, the relevant authorities have finally approved the upgrading works with an allocation of about RM1.3 million,” he said in a statement.
Tiong added that the improved road conditions would not only ensure safer and more convenient travel but also help ease the difficulties faced by villagers during the rainy season and high tides along the Rajang River.
He gave assurance that his Service Centre would work with the relevant agencies to closely monitor the progress, stressing that the project must be implemented thoroughly.
“I will continue to oversee and push for the successful completion of the project, so that the residents of Kampung Kedada can finally be freed from the hardships they have endured for so long,” he said.
