KOTA SAMARAHAN: Deputy Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) and Muara Tuang assemblyman, Datuk Idris Buang, visited victims of a house fire in Kampung Niup on Thursday (July 16) to present financial assistance and offer moral support to the affected families.
The visit was aimed at checking on the welfare of the victims, who lost their homes in the early morning blaze, and assuring them of continued support during their recovery.
Idris expressed sympathy to the families affected by the incident and encouraged them to remain resilient in facing the ordeal. He also prayed that their recovery process would proceed smoothly.
Earlier, a single-storey house occupied by four families, involving a total of 16 occupants, was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out at about 4:19 am on Thursday.
A nearby house also sustained minor damage after about five per cent of its roof was affected by the heat from the blaze.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), firefighters from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.
The fire crew arrived at 4:46 am and found the house engulfed in flames before carrying out firefighting operations using three first-response hose lines and three nozzles.
The fire was brought under control at 5:03 am, while the operations concluded at 7:20 am after inspection and overhaul works confirmed the area was safe.
No injuries or casualties were reported. The cause of the fire and the extent of losses are still under investigation by the authorities.
