KUCHING: The spirit of unity and compassion was alive in Kampung Segedup this Hari Raya Aidilaidha as the local community came together for the annual ‘ibadah korban’ and charity distribution programme.
As part of the celebration, two cattle were sacrificed and the meat distributed among 14 families in the village, particularly those from low-income households.
“This is a yearly programme. Normally during Hari Raya Korban, we give and distribute to the citizens in the area, especially those with low income,” said Satok Assemblyman, Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who was present at the event.
He emphasised that while the act of sacrifice holds religious significance, it also serves as a platform to strengthen social bonds and promote harmony within the community.

“This is one of the good examples where religion is good. It is translated into ordinary life as a good deed. I’m sure all religions do good deeds,” he said.
Ibrahim also highlighted the culture of unity in Sarawak, where acts of kindness and support often transcend religious boundaries.
“In Sarawak, we do this regularly every year without expecting anything in return. It helps enhance the relationship between citizens in a particular area. That’s where harmony comes in,” he added.
He shared that in his own constituency of Satok, which is home to a multiracial community, people of various faiths also contribute to the programme out of goodwill.
“We even have people of other religions who donated. That’s the culture in Sarawak which cannot be matched in any part of the world,” he said.
