MOSCOW, Russia: The Kremlin today confirmed the timeline for the highly anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States (US) President Donald Trump in Alaska.
Talks are set to start at around 11:30 am (1930 GMT) on Friday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).
Russia’s war against Ukraine will top the agenda, Kremlin foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.
Trump and Putin are set to hold a joint press conference following the consultations, he said.
Besides Ushakov, the high-level Russian delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Andrey Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin’s chief US negotiator.
Trump and Putin are set to meet at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city.
It will be their first in-person meeting since Trump took office in January and since Putin launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his European allies will be nervously awaiting the outcome of the meeting, amid fears that the talks could lead to an agreement over territorial concessions to Russia that Kyiv has firmly rejected. – BERNAMA-dpa
