KUCHING: The Rainforest 7s Rugby Tournament is returning for the second edition on Jun 21 and 22 at the Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field, here.

Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC) said the tournament, organised by KRFC, supported by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and sanctioned by the Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU), continues to grow in prestige and impact.

“This initiative, inspired and named by the minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, serves as more than just a competitive event — it is a crucial platform for rugby development, tourism promotion, and talent identification in Sarawak.

“The 2025 edition will see participation from 12 club teams competing in the Men’s Open category, 7 school teams in the newly introduced Under-16 category,” KRFC said in a statement.

The tournament plays a pivotal role in identifying and selecting players for the National 7s in Terengganu, shortlisting athletes for Malaysia Games (SUKMA) representation, and promoting Sarawak as a sports tourism destination.

Additionally, the defending champions KRFC Blackcatz, who claimed the inaugural title last year, will return to defend their crown in what promises to be a high-energy, talent-packed weekend of rugby action.

With pride, state selection, and national opportunities at stake, the Rainforest 7s is set to once again highlight Sarawak’s commitment to growing the sport from the grassroots up while showcasing the vibrant spirit of Kuching on and off the pitch.
