SIBU: Members of Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) have been encouraged to make full use of social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook to widen market reach and boost sales of community products, especially in rural areas.
National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) director-general Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud said proactive use of social media could help communities market their products more broadly and at minimal cost.
“I encourage all KRT members to utilise social media actively and wisely, particularly for the promotion of local products, while also providing exposure to the efforts of rural communities,” he said at the Santuni Madani Programme and Progressive KRT Working Visit at Sungai Banyau here on Saturday (May 3).
Che Roslan said the public should also take advantage of the nearby National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) facilities to attend digital marketing and social media training.
“Participation in KRT is voluntary, but it requires strong commitment for the collective benefit of the community,” he stressed.
He also called on all KRTs nationwide to enliven the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration of KRT through various community-based programmes aimed at strengthening unity and togetherness among locals.
Sungai Banyau KRT received a Progressive RT grant of RM123,000 last year and is currently actively implementing various economic and safety-related projects.
Among them are the production of beadwork handicrafts by the KRT Women’s Neighbourhood Group and the construction of a dedicated cabin for the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS), which serves as a centre for patrol operations at night.
Members of the public interested in placing orders for the beadwork products may contact KRT secretary Patricia Rendah at 011-2920 5436.
Also present were JPNIN Sarawak director Dirwana Azool, Kapit Division Unity Officer Lau Siew Yen, Sungai Banyau village chief Jampong Meng, Sungai Banyau KRT chairman Jawi Medan, as well as other chairpersons and KRT members from surrounding areas.
