TATAU: A bush fire covering about 400 hectares in Kuala Tatau Serupai here has entered its sixth day today (Mar 28), with firefighting efforts still ongoing.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the fire, first reported on Mar 23, continued to burn despite containment efforts.

Its spokesperson said firefighters are using hose lines and portable pumps, drawing water from nearby drains to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby oil palm plantations.

The operation is being assisted by workers from Woodman Plantation, focusing on containment along plantation boundaries.

A total of 12 firefighters, assisted by several agencies including police and plantation workers, are involved in the operation.

No casualties have been reported.

At press time, the firefighting operation is still ongoing.
