KUCHING: Kuching-born chef Michelle Goh has made Sarawak and Malaysia proud recently after becoming our country’s youngest female chef to receive the prestigious Michelin culinary recognition.

Michelin awarded a Michelin star to the Mia Restaurant in Bangkok, where she is the one of the founders with Thai chef Pongcharn ‘Top’ Russell.

According to the restaurant, Goh, who hails from Kuching, honed her culinary skills at Le Cordon Bleu Sydney and gained experience working with renowned chefs, including at the Three-Hatted Eleven Bridge by Neil Perry in Australia.

“Her insatiable thirst for knowledge is evident, as she utilises her limited free time to learn from respected industry giants like Anna Polyviou.

“Her culinary journey also took her to Pollen under Jason Atherton in Singapore before finding a home in the ‘Land of Smiles,’” it said in a statement.

Remarkably, at just 23 years old, she then joined the two Michelin-starred restaurant Suhring in Bangkok, where she assumed leadership of the pastry section.

“During her tenure, the restaurant not only earned its first Michelin star but also secured a promotion to two stars,” it added.

While Goh serves as the chef patron of Mia restaurant, her achievements transcend the culinary realm.

She has been recognised with the ‘Young Chef of the Year’ award, and Mia has garnered acclaim for having the ‘Best Dessert Menu’ by BK Magazine Top Tables.
