KUCHING: Aidil Sharin Sahak, head coach of Kuching City FC, reassured fans that striker Ronald Ngah Wanja’s late-game struggle was minor and not a cause for concern following their 1-0 victory over Selangor FC at Sarawak State Stadium on Sunday (Sept 21).

In the later stages of the match, Ronald was seen holding his right calf after attempting a shot and was subsequently substituted, with Rodney Celvin coming on.

Aidil clarified that it was only a cramp caused by the hot conditions and expects him to be fit for their next clash against Immigration FC on Sunday (Sept 28) at 8.15 pm.

“It’s our first afternoon game this season, and the heat really affected the momentum. But Ronald gave everything. Even though he didn’t score, I’m pleased with his performance,” he added.

The big Cameroonian forward is the Cats’ top league scorer, with three goals so far this season.

Additionally, Aidil praised the home crowd of more than 5,600 whose energy helped drive the team to the final whistle.

“That’s the beauty of football — when you hear the crowd cheering, it pushes the players to give more even when they’re tired.

“I really appreciate the fans for always being behind us,” said the Singaporean in a post-match press conference.

With momentum now on their side, Aidil said his focus is on maintaining fitness and consistency as Kuching City prepares for their upcoming fixtures.

The victory at home takes Kuching City to fourth, with seven points.
