KUCHING: Kuching City FC have sent an early statement of intent ahead of the 2026/2027 Malaysia League season, blending proven firepower with continuity as they strengthen a squad set to compete on multiple fronts.

The Cats have confirmed the arrivals of Australian forward Dylan Wenzel-Halls from Penang FC and experienced Malaysian midfielder Nazmi Faiz Mansor, formerly of Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), while also retaining the backbone of last season’s historic campaign.

The double arrival suggests head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak is not merely rebuilding, but refining a squad that exceeded expectations last season and now faces the demands of domestic and regional competitions.

Wenzel-Halls arrives with a reputation as a direct and energetic attacker capable of stretching defences, adding another dimension to Kuching City’s frontline after impressing during his spell with Penang FC.

Nazmi, meanwhile, brings a wealth of experience and composure in midfield, having represented both JDT and the national team.

His leadership is expected to provide balance and control in the middle of the park.

Equally significant is the club’s decision to keep the core of last season’s squad intact, with Ronald Ngah Wanja, James Okwuosa and Jerome Mpacko Etame all extending their stay.

Japanese defender Yuki Tanigawa and attacking midfielder Ahmad Israiwah have also committed to Kuching City for the 2026/2027 season, reinforcing stability across the spine of the team.

With quality additions complementing an already settled squad, Kuching City’s transfer business appears far from over, with more arrivals expected as the Cats continue shaping a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

Last Sunday (Jun 28), club chairman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman told Sarawak Tribune that Kuching City FC were planning one of their biggest transfer windows yet, with up to nine new players expected to arrive ahead of the new season.

He said the extensive recruitment drive is aimed at preparing the Cats for a demanding campaign, with fixtures expected to come every three to four days as the club competes on multiple fronts.
