KUCHING: Samarahan football fans are in for a treat this season as Kuching City FC’s President’s Cup team brings competitive action to their doorstep, with Kota Samarahan Open Stadium named as the squad’s official home venue.
The move will see the Kuching City FC Junior side play their home matches in Samarahan throughout the upcoming season, offering local supporters closer access to youth-level competitive football.
Kuching City FC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Iswandi Ali Hassan, said the decision is part of the club’s effort to introduce something different this season while expanding the team’s reach beyond the city centre.
“We are trying to bring something different this season by selecting Kota Samarahan Open Stadium as the official venue for matches involving the squad coached by Firdaus Morshidi,” he said.
Iswandi added that the decision to host matches outside Kuching was made with the approval of the Malaysian Football League (MFL).
“Recently, MFL conducted an inspection of the stadium, and it meets the required standards to host matches involving the team,” he told Sarawak Tribune recently.
The 2026 President’s Cup season is set to kick off on May 7, with Kuching City FC beginning their campaign against MISC-TOUCHTRONICS SC at UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.
