KUCHING: Kuching City FC youth team head coach, Firdaus Morshidi, is eyeing a comeback as the team targets tactical stability and a tighter defence.

Despite a frustrating draw against PDRM FC at Stadium Negeri last Sunday in the Piala Belia 2025, Firdaus remains confident that his team will bounce back in upcoming away matches.

He cited plans for tactical refinement, player rotation, and a more solid defensive approach.

“Overall, even though it was a draw, we’re not fully satisfied. The players didn’t follow our game plan, and that’s what frustrated us,” Firdaus told reporters pitchside after the match.

However, he remains optimistic, with preparations already underway for their next away fixture against Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI) in Johor on June 14.

Commenting on the team’s performance, Firdaus said the match was “okay”, but emphasised the importance of long-term development over short-term results.

“We’re rotating players, especially the younger ones, because we want to give them exposure. This is part of our long-term planning. We’re not rushing anything,” he said.

He acknowledged that improvements are still needed but highlighted the team’s visible progress.

“There needs to be progress in terms of technique and experience. After this, we’ll review the match footage and carry out our analysis.

“One of our next targets is to stop conceding goals. So far, we’ve let in goals in every game,” he added.

Firdaus also noted that there won’t be major tactical changes, to avoid confusing the players.

“We won’t change too much. Constant changes can confuse the players,” he said.

“Some players we tried in the starting eleven didn’t quite suit the roles we planned for, so we may try new players in specific positions that better fit our tactical setup.”
