KUCHING: It was an impressive weekend for the Kuching Dragon Boat Club as its paddlers advanced to multiple semi-finals at the Sarawak International Dragon Boat Regatta (SIDBR) 2025.
Competing on home waters at the Kuching Waterfront, the club made waves with strong performances across several divisions, including the Masters Open, Women’s event, Mixed 12, and Open 12 categories.
Club captain Bryan Wee described the team’s progress as a major milestone for the growing Kuching-based outfit.
“It’s been a big eye-opener and a very good feeling for us because this morning we got third place for the Battle of the Dragons, which was an amazing feat considering it was our first time,” he told Sarawak Tribune today (Oct 25).
Wee added that all four of the club’s crews — the Masters, Women’s, Mixed 12 and Open 12 teams successfully reached the semi-finals, a result that reflected both the club’s training discipline and team chemistry.
“By today, everyone seems to be in sync. Our synergy is there, everyone’s hyped up and excited to do better and go as far as we can,” he said.
Wee also credited the experience of senior paddlers for helping maintain focus throughout the two days of racing.
“Some of our seniors have raced in quite a lot of events before this, so we reminded our members to eat well, prepare early and stay organised. Everyone looked out for each other, and that really helped things run smoothly,” he added.
Among the club’s standout results were first-place finishes in the DB12 Masters Open (1:25.870), DB12 Premier Women (1:36.004), DB12 Premier Mix (1:27.767, Team Laksa), and DB12 Premier Open (1:19.299, Team Kolomee).
Wee added the team’s collective performance was a source of pride, especially competing alongside seasoned local and international crews.
