KUCHING: Kuching FA have been held to a draw by PDRM after failing to capitalise on multiple scoring opportunities in their Sarawak Premier League clash at Sarawak Stadium on Saturday night.
The home side struggled to convert their chances in the final third, a concern head coach, Nizam Mahmud, openly acknowledged after the match.
The match opened in dramatic fashion when a goalkeeping blunder by Kuching FA allowed PDRM to score early in the first half, putting the hosts on the back foot.
Kuching responded through Mohamad Nur Raziman Razali, who pounced on a mistake by the PDRM goalkeeper to equalise in the 31st minute, restoring balance to the contest.
Nizam believed an earlier goal could have given his side more control.
“If we had scored earlier in the first half, it would have been easier to manage the game,” he said.
Both teams continued to press for a winner in the second half, but Kuching FA’s attacks lacked the cutting edge needed to secure all three points, while PDRM held firm to protect the draw.
“With this draw, we have to work harder after this,” Nizam added.
He stressed his side’s need for improvement as they chase consistency in the league campaign.
“We really need a proper striker. Our finishing is not effective enough at the moment. We will look again on Monday and see how things are,” he told Sarawak Tribune on the touchline.
He said the team will reassess their attacking options on Monday, as a new attacking player is expected to join the squad.
Kuching, third with 15 points after seven games, will travel to the Sarikei Sports Complex on November 22 to face Sarikei FA.
