KUCHING: The Kuching Festival 2025 is set to conclude on a high note this Sunday with the much-anticipated Meniti Cakerawala 2.0, a production that merges science, storytelling, and performing arts.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng highlighted that the festival, which began on July 25, has brought the community together through weeks of food, music, dance, cultural shows, and family activities.

“Thousands have walked through our festival grounds, enjoying flavours from near and far, appreciating the creativity of our performers, and experiencing the warmth and togetherness that Kuching is known for,” he said at a press conference for the event at the MBKS building today.

The festival, he added, is more than a city event as it supports local businesses, showcases Sarawak’s rich heritage, and promotes tourism.

Meniti Cakerawala 2.0, the festival’s closing highlight, features a collaboration between Malaysia’s first astrophysicist Tan Sri Mazlan Othman and internationally acclaimed dance legend Datuk Ramli Ibrahim.

The performance, brought to life by Sutra Foundation dancers, promises to transform the MBKS Theater stage into a “living constellation”, blending choreography, astronomy, music, poetry, and narration to tell a story of humanity’s cosmic origins.

Wee noted that the production has already earned international acclaim, with an eight-minute excerpt showcased at New York’s Lincoln Center during the 35th New York Dance Festival, and hosting the full performance in Kuching is a point of pride for the city.

The performance will take place at MBKS Theater, Kuching Park, at 7.45 pm this Sunday with free admission and first-come, first-served seating.

“Meniti Cakerawala 2.0 is more than entertainment. It embodies curiosity, creativity, and connection, reminding us of our shared humanity and our place in the universe,” he said.

Wee is inviting the community to celebrate the festival’s success and experience the innovative production, brought together in collaboration with Delphic Malaysia.
