KUCHING: The Kuching Festival 2025 will feature two exciting highlights – the Kuching Cosplay Competition and K-Pop Dance Contest – both open to local individuals of all ages with no entry fees required.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said a total cash prize pool of around RM10,000 will be up for grabs across both competitions.

He said registration for the Cosplay Competition will open from Friday (June 20) until July 29 2025 via the online link https://form.jotform.com//233573434750457, while registration for the K-Pop Dance Contest is already open through https://forms.gle/e7LfeExZcBwSKzG67 with the deadline set for July 15, 2025.

“Each competition category is expected to attract at least 50 entries. For the Kuching Cosplay Competition, we have two categories: junior and open. The junior champion will take home RM600, second place RM400, third place RM300, while the best pose, best character, and fan favourite will each receive RM200.

“For the open category, the grand prize is RM1,000, second place RM800, third RM500, and the best pose, best character, and fan favourite will each receive RM200.

“As for the K-Pop competition, the winning team – which must consist of at least four members – will receive RM2,000, second place RM1,000, third RM500, best costume RM500, and best dancer RM100,” he said.

He said this during a press conference held yesterday at the MBKS headquarters, noting that the competitions will take place at the MBKS Theatre from 5pm to 11pm on Saturday (August 2).

Wee stressed that the event serves as a dedicated platform for youth around Kuching to showcase their talents while providing entertainment for the local community.

He added that the event is co-organised with Star Studio, reflecting MBKS’s continued commitment to engaging youth in active, creative, and competitive endeavours.
