KUCHING: Arriving passengers at the Kuching International Airport were greeted with festive cheer as a Chinese New Year reception was held in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign today.
The reception, organised by Tourism Malaysia, formed part of a nationwide effort to mark the festive season at major airports while promoting the VM2026 campaign.
Held at the arrival hall, the programme welcomed both foreign and domestic travellers, including passengers on Malaysia Airlines flight MH2520 from Kuala Lumpur which landed at 12.45 pm.
Visitors were presented with mandarin oranges symbolising prosperity, along with VM2026 souvenirs.
Deputy Federal Secretary of Sarawak, Mohamad Anuardi Hajani, and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (MTCP), Morshidi Fredrick, were present, together with representatives from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and tourism industry players.
Representatives from Batik Air, AirAsia and Malaysia Aviation Group were also in attendance, as well as Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak Tourism Federation and the Sarawak Homestay Association.
The programme included a ‘yee sang’ tossing ceremony, cultural costume displays, and a lion dance performance, drawing the attention of travellers passing through the terminal.
The official sun bear mascots of VM2026, Wira and Manja, also interacted with visitors for photo sessions.
Similar receptions were held simultaneously at airports in Sibu, Bintulu and Miri as part of the campaign.
