KUCHING: The Kuching International Cat Festival (KICF) 2025 has the potential to become a regular feature in the city’s calendar, said Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Officiating the Cat Parade at Kuching Waterfront on Saturday night, he commended Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) for bringing together the cat fair and the festival at such a large scale.

“I would like to extend my congratulations and thanks to DBKU for bringing not only this cat fair but also the Kuching International Cat Festival to the city,” he said.
Abdul Karim noted that it was his first time witnessing a cat parade of this scale in Kuching, with the involvement of international judges.
He added that while cat shows have been held in the city previously, they were only on a smaller scale.
“This, however, is the first time it has been organised at such a large or international level,” he said.
He pointed out that the festival drew not only Kuching residents but also participants from other parts of Sarawak, describing the response as “very encouraging”.
With the strong turnout, he suggested that the event should be held annually, or at least once every two years, to further boost Kuching’s image as the “City of Cats”.
“We would definitely support if DBKU wishes to host it again in the future,” he assured.
