Kuching Love Book hosts blood donation campaign

KUCHING: The Kuching Love Book Association will hold its 19th blood donation campaign at the Boulevard Shopping Mall from 9 am to 2 pm on Sunday (March 15).

The campaign is organised in response to a request from the Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Blood Bank to help solve the problem of insufficient blood stock.

“We hope that people from all walks of life will actively attend and support this meaningful blood donation event and help people in urgent need of blood.

“One donation of blood can save three lives,” said the association in a statement issued by them today (March 14).

It added that the first 80 donors who successfully donate will receive a gratitude goodie bag containing a canvas bag, toothpaste and toothbrush, tissue paper, vouchers, one kilogramme of fragrant rice, rice vermicelli, rice crackers and milk tea.

“Buns, Milo drinks and drinking water will also be provided to donors on the day of the campaign,” it said.

The association chairperson and founder, May Loo Hun Ing also expressed appreciation to  the sponsors of the event including Liansin Trading Sdn Bhd, Supreme Consolidated Resources Sdn Bhd, Old Street Enterprise, Eyesight Optic, Taiwan Siau Jou, San Swee Fatt, Harrisons Sarawak Sdn Bhd, Nutrigold, BSSK Logistics Sdn Bhd, Asprime Sdn Bhd, Assuccess Sdn Bhd and Wecare Bakery.

Apart from the blood donation, members from Best Hearing Aid Centre and Lai Lee Beauty & Slimming Centre Sdn Bhd will also provide hearing aid screening, eye care and consultation services to the public during the event.

According to the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Centre, individuals aged 18 and above who weigh at least 45 kilogrammes are eligible to donate blood.

Those aged 17 may donate with the accompaniment of a parent or guardian.

The whole blood donation process usually takes between five and 30 minutes, depending on the individual.

Prospective donors are advised to ensure they have at least five hours of sleep, eat breakfast and refrain from consuming alcohol for at least eight hours before donating.
