KUCHING: ACP Ahsmon Bajah has challenged his district police headquarters (IPD) to adapt and change its work approach by making use of all technology element to solve crimes.
The Kuching police chief said the public are now changing with technology and that criminals are going hi-tech.
He said criminals are no longer using traditional methods and have resorted to social media to sell stolen items, with some even using courier services to dispose of the their ill-gotten goods.
“When planning a crime in the past, they have to meet up physically to plan out strategies.
“Lately now, they are using social media to operate.
“Because of that, I am challenging our police headquarters to adapt and change its work approach,” he said when officiating at the IPD’s monthly assembly this morning.
Ahsmon stressed that it is not the quantity, meaning the number of officers or teams deployed, but the quality of the officers – who adopt technology – that matters.
“This is my challenge to all personnel because we are in the city centre.
“Our most significant challenge is to keep up with the world of technology by intercepting information, obtaining information as well as locating and hunting down the criminals,” he said.
He also urged police personnel to carry out their duties with integrity by being honest, trustworthy, fair, responsible and respectful to all institutions and society.
