KUCHING: Die-hard Liverpool fans in Sarawak painted the city red today as ‘The Kuching Reds’ staged their highly anticipated Reds Champions’ Parade to celebrate the club’s 2024/2025 English Premier League (EPL) triumph.
The parade was led by an Anfield-style decorated open-top bus, accompanied by a convoy of supercars and big bikes, creating a striking display of team spirit and celebration.
The vibrant procession passed through iconic Kuching landmarks, including Satok, Kampung Muhibbah/Dagok, the Kuching Waterfront near Darul Hana Bridge, and Padungan.
Meradong Assemblyman, Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, who joined the festivities, described the event as a powerful show of unity and pride among Liverpool supporters in Sarawak.
“I think this is a good programme. All the Liverpool supporters can come together and celebrate a historic moment.
“They’ve won the Premier League for the 20th time,” he told reporters at The Spring Shopping Mall.
He also expressed hope that fan groups like ‘The Kuching Reds’ would continue to grow through proper registration and community engagement.
“I hope they can register themselves with ROS so they can become a formal NGO.
“That way, they can receive support from the government and local representatives to grow further and venture into charity and community programmes,” he said
‘The Kuching Reds’ were officially registered as a sports and recreational club on September 14, 2024, and currently boast over 250 members.
Ding, a self-proclaimed die-hard Liverpool fan, said he joined the parade to show support for the movement while in town for the DUN sitting.
“Today I had some spare time, so I came to join them. I fully support this movement,” he added.
Ding also encouraged fans from other parts of Sarawak to establish their own chapters.
“I hope places like Sibu, Sarikei and Miri can also start similar associations, maybe with names like ‘Sibu Reds’ or ‘Miri Reds’,” he said.
Fans travelled from across the state to be part of the celebration, underscoring how Liverpool FC’s legacy in Sarawak thrives not just as a football club, but as a symbol of shared identity and community spirit.
