KUCHING: Kuching RFC may have kicked off the Warrior Old Boys Rugby Club (WORC) 10s tournament on May 17-18 on a slow mode, but by the end of the two-day event, they were celebrating as champions.

They edged out WORC Z 14-5 to clinch the coveted title.

Team captain, Muzzamil Azfar Merzuki, shared his pride and excitement after clinching the title and the RM1,500 prize.

“As the team representative, I feel proud and honoured because we won the WORC 10s competition in its first-ever edition.

“This is truly a very special moment for us,” he told Sarawak Tribune post-match on Sunday.

Muzzamil admitted the team’s start was not the strongest, but their determination and teamwork helped them bounce back and dominate the tournament.

“Honestly, we started the competition somewhat slowly, but in the end, we succeeded in our mission to become champions,” he said.

Third place went to WORC X, and Wolfpack were fourth.

Other winners included Blasta RC, who took the Champion Plate, and Saribas Phoenix RC the Runner-Up Plate.

Customs RC grabbed the Champion Bowl, while Vokmat Titans took the Runner-Up Bowl.
