KUCHING: The upcoming development of Kuching Sentral will serve as a central integrated public transportation hub.
It will anchor the city’s new Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, and pave the way for a more connected and culturally vibrant urban landscape.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg made the announcement during the Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri gathering hosted by the Management Committee of the Waris 8 Representatives (JKWW8) Datu Bandar Abang Muhammad Kassim Datu Bandar Abang Bolhassan (DBAK) at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre here on Saturday night.
He stated that Kuching Sentral is envisioned as Sarawak’s own version of Kuala Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral).
“The dynamic transportation hub will be complemented by ART stations at key locations to drive economic growth and expand public access to urban services.
“The main ART station will be built in Padang Pasir area and it will become the heartbeat of Kuching’s public transport network, just like KL Sentral is for Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
The ART system, under Phase 1 of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS), will comprise three main lines: the Blue Line (Rembus to Hikmah Exchange), Red Line (Kuching Sentral to Pending), and Green Line (Pending to Damai).
In addition, Abang Johari also shared that development along the Sarawak River, including Kampung Masjid and nearby villages, will be seamlessly connected through a continuous waterfront landscape stretching to Satok area.
This will create a more accessible, connected and visually cohesive city scape.
