KUCHING: The National Press Club (NPC) will host the second edition of the media friendship games in Kuching next year to foster camaraderie among media practitioners from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Sabah.
NPC vice president Farrah Naz Karim said the games will serve as a platform for both competitive sports and casual networking.
“The sporting events would be competitive, but we also have social gatherings and a dinner. This is about media camaraderie.
“The previous edition in Sabah was a success, and now we are moving it here for the second edition of the games,” she said during a courtesy call to Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak at its office here today.
Farrah, who is also Media Prima Bhd deputy group managing editor and New Straits Times group editor, led the delegation. She was accompanied by NPC treasurer and organising chairman Sharanjit Singh, who is also the New Straits Times deputy group editor, as well as NPC special officer Hazel Jasni, the director of HazelComms.
The courtesy call was attended by Sarawak Tribune editor-in-chief Aden Nagrace, Corporate Business Development senior manager Dorge Rajah, Suara Sarawak executive editor Rohana Wahed, and deputy executive editor Awang Shaferi Awang Adeni.
Farrah proposed including sports such as badminton, bowling, pickleball, and golf in the Kuching games.
She added that the organising committee is working closely with the Premier’s Office and various agencies to ensure the event’s success.
The previous Media Friendship Games in Sabah drew around 100 participants, including 46 NPC members, competing in sports such as football, tenpin bowling, pool, and darts.
Separately, the NPC delegation also paid courtesy visits yesterday (Dec 3) to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol, at the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) headquarters.
