KUCHING: The highly anticipated Kuching Zumba Fiesta 2025 is set to light up the State Hockey Stadium on August 2 as it aims to break not one, but two national records.

Organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the event marks its tenth anniversary this year and promises to be the biggest yet.

Participants will attempt to set records for both the largest Zumba event and the largest Glow In The Dark Zumba gathering in Malaysia.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng expressed confidence that Sarawakians will come together in a vibrant display of unity and energy to surpass existing records, currently held by the Penang Women’s Development Corporation with 9,500 participants in 2023, and a Sunway Lagoon Watson’s collaboration with 5,360 participants in 2016.

“We believe the incredible spirit of the Kuching community will not only break these records but showcase Sarawak’s unity and enthusiasm for health and well-being,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday.

What began as a small community activity in 2015 has since evolved into one of Kuching’s most anticipated fitness events.

Families, students, fitness enthusiasts and Zumba lovers are expected to fill the stadium from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

This year’s fiesta will feature state-of-the-art sound systems and LED screens to elevate the experience, ensuring that participants can fully immerse themselves in the choreographed glow in the dark workout.

“The event reflects our commitment to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. It’s more than just a workout, it’s about building physical strength, mental health, social bonds and confidence,” said Wee.

Over 10 Zumba studios and fitness groups from across the region, including Shake It Squad, Angels Fitsquad, Flylab Athletics, Fitstars Dance Crew and others will take part in the choreography showcase.

Entry is free and open to all age groups through registration on the iPeople application, with the added bonus of a lucky draw featuring attractive prizes.

Participants will also receive free Gatorade, courtesy of the official beverage partner, which is contributing more than 10,000 bottles for hydration.

Wee also extended his gratitude to KTS Group, the event’s main sponsor with a RM50,000 contribution, and Natural Avenue Sdn Bhd, which supported with RM10,000.

“Kuching Zumba Fiesta is not just about setting records. It is about dancing together under the stars, celebrating health, joy and the powerful spirit of community,” he said.
