KUCHING: Kuching South City Hall (MBKS) has lined up several events to celebrate the city’s 35th anniversary since achieving city status in 1988.

Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng told a press conference that the highly anticipated 9th edition of Kuching’s Got Talent themed ‘A Chance to Shine’ contest will be the highlight.

Wee highlighted the success of last year’s edition, which attracted over 100 participants, and assured that this year’s competition “will be even more thrilling”.

“The auditions for Kuching’s Got Talent 2023 will be held at the MBKS Auditorium on July 1 and 2. The semi-finals and final are scheduled for Aug 12 and 13 respectively.

“To motivate the contestants, a total of RM22,600 in cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. In addition, a Facebook Most-Liked Award will provide an opportunity for supporters of the finalists to vote for their favourites through the Kuching Got Talent 2023 FB Fan Page,” he said.

He said voting will close after the final category’s last performance on Sunday, Aug 13.

Apart from local industry experts, the panel of judges will include music producers, renowned singers, music talents, dance examiners, choreographers, and managing directors from recording companies.

“This creates a unique opportunity for the winners to secure contracts with recording companies.”

The MBKS is also actively seeking to attract more creative arts enthusiasts to participate, particularly in the other talent categories.

Those interested can obtain physical copies of the application form from the MBKS lobby’s security counter or download it from the official MBKS website at https://mbks.sarawak.gov.my/.

Completed application forms must be submitted by 4.30 pm on Wednesday, June 26 at the MBKS security counter.
