KUCHING: The public are advised to take note of another road closure in conjunction with the coming Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival 2022.
Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the Jalan Main Bazaar has been completely closed from Oct 20 to make way for tent installation works along the road.
Once the festival ends, the road will then be opened to vehicle traffic on Nov 7.
“Meanwhile, the second road closure is Jalan Wawasan from the direction of Padang Merdeka.
“The closure will begin on Oct 29 from 7am until the end of the officiating ceremony of the festival. Later, on Nov 6, it will be closed again from 10am until the end of the closing ceremony of the festival,” he said.
Hence, the police are requesting public cooperation not to park their vehicles by the roadside of Jalan Main Bazaar and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg and Wayang Street to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Ahsmon stated that those who wish to visit the festival need to park their vehicles at Plaza Merdeka, Saujana multi-storey car park, Medan Pelita, Civic Centre and Reservoir Park.
The public, especially Kuchingites, are advised to plan their journeys ahead and choose alternative routes to reduce congestion due to the road closure.
The Sarawak Regatta-Kuching Waterfront Festival, which will commence on Oct 28 until Nov 6, will involve various programmes such as Sarawak Craft, Sarawak Kitchen and the Sarawak Drum Festival.
