KUCHING: The Darul Hana Bridge at Kuching Waterfront will be illuminated in gold on September 20 as part of the global #LightItUpGold campaign, marking Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Organised by the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), the initiative aims to raise awareness and show solidarity with children and their families who are battling cancer.
In addition to Darul Hana Bridge, three other Kuching landmarks – Satok Bridge, Satok Flyover, and the bridge at Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub – will also be lighted up in gold.
SCCS’ President, Mary Kiu, said that their mission is to bring hope, strength and support to children with cancer.
“Lighting up these landmarks in gold is a powerful reminder that children with cancer and their families are not alone in their journey.
“By coming together as a community, we show solidarity, raise awareness and spread hope that every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy and strong,” she said in a statement.
The campaign, led by Childhood Cancer International (CCI) and the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), and supported locally by Childhood Cancer Malaysia (CCM), highlights the courage of young patients while calling for continued support and advocacy.
SCCS expressed gratitude to Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) for supporting the initiative by facilitating the illumination of city landmarks.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit Kuching Waterfront on September 20 (Saturday), take photos of the golden glow of Darul Hana Bridge and share them on social media to spread awareness.
