THE Sarawak Patriot Association (SPA) yesterday congratulated the Sarawak government under the leadership of   Datuk Patinggi Abang  Johari Tun  Openg for having presented a people-oriented budget at the   Dewan Undangan Negeri.

In a press statement issued by   its chairman, Datuk John Lau Pang Heng, SPA noted that the budget of RM11.914 billion was the highest in Sarawak’s 55-year history and  76% of it was for development budget and RM6.049 billion for rural development.

“This shows that the State Government is stimulating a high level of economic activities and economic progress for Sarawak. The State Government prioritises high impact and people-centric projects, particularly for the rural areas. The State Government is committed to completing the implementation of the ongoing projects.

“We congratulate the Sarawak Government for introducing a RM1,000 incentive for newborn Sarawakians.  This may encourage a population boom in Sarawak in addition to savings to be withdrawn at age 18.”

SPA added that the  Sarawak Government’s allocation of RM1.105 billion for implementation of roads, and jetties to improve connectivity in Sarawak would bring the road  transportation up to par with Peninsular Malaysia.

“The Sarawak Government cares for the wellbeing of the people with an allocation of RM141 million for housing development to build 1,827 units of affordable houses under Rumah Mampu Milik and Rumah Spektra Permata at  different locations in Sarawak.  This will be able to help house ownership in Sarawak,” he added.

SPA also welcomed the RM85.3 million allocated for implementation and completion of industrial estates in Sarawak   It said the implementation of electricity and water supplies to rural communities was “admirable”.

On the allocation of RM81.7 million for the re-construction, repair and upgrading of dilapidated schools,  SPA said it was   disappointed that the Federal Government had yet to effect the payment of RM1 billion approved in 2018 for dilapidated schools.

The association, however, said it was proud of the Sarawak Government for allocating funds for schools’ rebuilding and for modernising and commercialising the agriculture sector by transforming the agriculture sector into a modern, competitive and sustainable sector.

“SPA encourages all Sarawakians to stand by the Sarawak Government under the leadership of  Datuk Patinggi Abang  Johari Tun Openg, particularly during a time where all of us are supporting the government to discuss and demand the return of Sarawak rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” added the statement.
