KUCHING: Top accounting student Graceheildis Fara Addylin has been named recipient of the prestigious Director’s Special Award at the Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM) Graduation Ceremony 2025, recognising her as the best overall graduate across all eight academic programmes at Kolej Vokasional (KV) Kuching.
The award, presented to the top overall graduate across all eight academic programmes at Kolej Vokasional Kuching, recognises outstanding academic performance, exemplary discipline, and leadership.
Graceheildis, from the Accounting Programme, achieved an exceptional CGPA of 3.94, earning perfect 3.90 scores in both general and vocational subjects throughout her four semesters.
Graceheildis admitted that emotions overwhelmed her, speaking moments after receiving the award from Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.
“I feel relieved and proud of myself because throughout all four semesters, I really pushed myself to get the pointer I wanted,” she said.
“I maintained 3.9 every semester. So of course, I felt proud and honestly, I felt like crying just now.”
For Graceheildis, the award represents more than just academic excellence; it reflects years of sacrifice.
“It was worth it. There were many nights I didn’t sleep. Sometimes I only slept at 2am just to finish my assignments and tasks. I gave it my all,” she said.
Despite her strict study discipline, she shared that her routine was not all work and no play.
“I’m just like any other student. I do use my phone and have my leisure time,” she shared.
“I don’t study non-stop. I divide my time. Sometimes my parents would take me out on weekends to release stress.”
Graceheildis plans to continue her studies by enrolling in the Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) programme at KV Kuching before pursuing a degree in accounting.
“Yes, I will continue with accounting. It has been my dream since I was in Form 3. One day, I hope to intern at one of the Big Four companies, and that’s my goal,” she said.
While she is ambitious, she shared that starting her own firm isn’t her first step.
“Not yet. Maybe later. For now, I want to gain experience first,” she said.
Graceheildis credited her parents for keeping her motivated.
“My inspiration comes from my parents. They will supply everything I need for my studies. They helped me with tablets, phones, and other necessities,” she added.
Graceheildis shared a strong message of encouragement for students considering KV Kuching.
“Don’t be afraid to join KV. Many people still look down on vocational colleges, but actually KV offers many opportunities to succeed,” she said.
She reminded students that KV graduates not only receive the Malaysian Vocational Certificate but also a skills certificate (Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia Tahap 3).
“There’s so much you can gain here. So don’t be afraid to take risks. Just go for it,” she added.
