KUCHING: The Kuching Water Board (KWB), in collaboration with its appointed contractor, carried out a site assessment today to evaluate the condition of an 800mm nominal diameter ductile iron (ND DI) pipe at Jalan Premat.

The inspection aims to identify the most effective method for repair while minimising disruption to water supply services.

During the inspection, it was discovered that a concrete block had been installed above the pipe as a protective measure.

In response, KWB has scheduled the isolation of the affected main pipe for April 8, at 10am, to commence preliminary works and proceed with excavation.

As a result of this isolation, residents in areas, including Petra Jaya and from Demak Laut to Bako, may experience low water pressure.

KWB advises affected residents to make necessary preparations and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

The leak is located within the road median and repair works will require the use of heavy machinery.

However, given the location and scale of the work, public safety remains a top priority.

KWB is urging all motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution and adhere to traffic advisories when travelling through the area.

KWB also extended its appreciation to the public for their patience and cooperation, emphasising that these critical repairs are essential to maintaining reliable water services for the community.
