MUKAH: Drugs and dangerous weapons proved to be a troubling combination after police arrested an oil palm plantation labourer and seized methamphetamine alongside a suspected air rifle and a samurai sword.
The 36-year-old local man was taken into custody by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 8:00 am at a house off Jalan Mukah-Selangau on Wednesday (Aug. 5).
Mukah Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the raid was carried out following intelligence on the suspect’s alleged involvement in drug abuse.
“Police first found a straw tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, hidden inside a cigarette pack kept in the suspect’s sling bag. The seized drugs weighed around 0.46 gramme (g).
“A further search of the suspect’s room uncovered a suspected air rifle, a 79cm samurai sword, 80 marbles believed to have been used as ammunition, and a plastic spray bottle,” he said.
Following that, the suspect and seized items were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions.
A preliminary urine screening found the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possessing a firearm without a valid licence, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possession of a scheduled weapon, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug use.
Rizal said the suspect has been remanded for three days until August 9 to facilitate investigations.
He added that Mukah police will continue intensifying efforts to combat drug abuse and the illegal possession of firearms and dangerous weapons to safeguard public safety and maintain public order.
