LUNDU: In the spirit of Ramadan, the Lundu Islamic Welfare Trust Board (LAKIL) has stepped forward to support the underprivileged community in the Lundu and Sematan districts by distributing food baskets to 60 asnaf (eligible recipients of zakat).
The initiative aims to ease their burden and help them observe the holy month with greater comfort and peace.
LAKIL chairperson Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu symbolically handed over the contributions at Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Mosque on Thursday (Mar 20).
Of the 60 donations, 40 were distributed to asnaf in Lundu and Sematan, while 20 were allocated to asnaf students at SMK Senibong.
In addition, a tahlil (prayer session) was held in memory of her two late sisters, Cikgu Inah Anu and To Puan Rabiah Anu.
Additionally, Jamilah, who is also chairperson of the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) Lundu branch, presented Perkim Sarawak’s contributions to asnaf in Lundu and Sematan, as well as to students at SMK Lundu.
Jamilah expressed her hope that the donations would bring comfort to the asnaf community, enabling them to observe Ramadan with gratitude and peace while making the most of the final ten days of worship.
