MIRI: The demand for industrial and commercial uses of water in Bintulu is expected to increase significantly as investors are planning to establish a steel plant in the division soon.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi said, as the service provider for the Northern Region (covering Miri up to Limbang), LAKU Water Treament Plant in Lambir is well prepared to meet the increasing demand for the commodity in the region.
He said this to reporters after conducting a working visit to the treatment plant on Monday,
Julaihi assured that LAKU would be able to provide sufficient water supply for the Northern Region even with the increased demand from industrial and commercial consumers.
“For Northern Region coverage of water supply, LAKU’s total capacity is 688 MLD (million litres per day), and from this figure, the consumption is about 400 MLD,” he said.
Julaihi was accompanied during the visit by LAKU’s chairman Datuk Nelson Balang Rining.
