SIBU: Lan Berambeh Sungkei Sibu, an annual breaking fast programme held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang, continues to bring people together in a vibrant celebration of unity and cultural harmony during the holy month of Ramadan.
The seventh edition, held yesterday, has become a much-anticipated gathering for Sibu’s diverse community.
It provides a unique opportunity for people from all walks of life to break fast together while embracing the spirit of togetherness.
This year’s edition saw an even more lively atmosphere, drawing participants from various backgrounds, including local residents, students, civil servants, and community leaders.
Sarawak Tribune manage to meet some of the attendees who were willing to share their excitement and appreciation for the event, highlighting its significance not just as a religious observance but also as a platform for fostering social bonds.

“Today, I come wearing a kebaya to show just how excited I am to break my fast here. I’m a Sibu resident, and this is my third year attending. Honestly, this year is the most vibrant compared to previous years, and I truly hope this programme continues for many more years to come,” she said.

“Today’s event is actually very meaningful, so we are here to support this initiative. We also want to back our Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s statement that unity in Sarawak is very strong. So, as part of not only MRCS Sibu but also as an advisor to the Teo Chew Association, we want to showcase the unity we have in this state,” he said.

“I came with 24 of my fellow trainees from ILKKM Sibu. We took a bus to get here, and this is my first time joining. We’re all really excited and happy to experience the atmosphere of breaking fast here,” she said.

“I travelled from Balingian to Sibu to join Lan Berambeh Sungkei Sibu. For me, it’s one of the events I look forward to every Ramadan to reunite with friends, and this is my second time attending. This programme has a uniquely special touch, with a harmonious atmosphere and stunning views at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang, which faces one of the tallest towers in Sarawak, Wisma Sanyan,” he said.
