KUALA LUMPUR: A plot of land in Kuala Lumpur (KL) has been identified for the construction of the Sarawak Complex, which will serve as a hub for Sarawakian students studying in Peninsular Malaysia, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the proposal was first raised during last year’s ‘Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak’ event, where the issue of accommodation for off-campus Sarawakian students was discussed, and the government has since taken steps to evaluate the matter.
“I have identified a plot of land in Kuala Lumpur for the development of the Sarawak building. This complex will also house a hostel and serve as a meeting point for Sarawakians.
“I believe within three years, the Sarawak building will proudly stand in the heart of Kuala Lumpur,” he said during the ‘Sarawak Agenda: Town Hall Session with the Premier of Sarawak’ event held in conjunction with ‘Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak’ 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here on Saturday.
Following Sarawak’s major acquisition in Affin Bank with its headquarters located within the TRX building, he said the ‘Rumah Sarawak’ will be situated in that building and Sarawakians no longer have to rely on rented government premises.
“In addition, our Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund office, along with several other state agencies, are also located in TRX.
“This ensures that the necessary facilities and support continue to be provided for Sarawakians who are contributing to Malaysia’s economy.
“With the land already secured, what remains now is to begin construction. Soon, the Sarawak complex will rise proudly in the heart of Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
