KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Land and Survey Social and Sports Club (LANDAS) Samarahan organised the ‘Love in a Box’ programme at Dewan Rafflesia, Sekolah Pendidikan Khas Kota Samarahan.
The event brought together government agencies, educators and parents in a community initiative aimed at supporting special education students.
Samarahan Superintendent of Lands and Surveys Ahmad Roslan Yaiyah said the programme was introduced to nurture empathy and strengthen relationships between government agencies and the community through meaningful social contributions.
He said the initiative was carried out under LANDAS as a voluntary effort rather than an official departmental obligation, allowing staff members to organise outreach activities through collective contributions.
“The ‘Love in a Box’ programme is not an official obligation of the department, but an initiative by the club to cultivate empathy and strengthen ties between the department and the community,” he said.
Ahmad Roslan said the programme was first implemented earlier this year at the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society before being expanded to special education institutions including Sekolah Pendidikan Khas Kota Samarahan.
He added that the initiative also complements the department’s corporate social responsibility efforts, where contributions derived from royalty collections and staff donations are channelled to selected communities based on established criteria.
Meanwhile, District Education Officer Shbini Saini said collaboration between agencies and schools plays an important role in strengthening the education ecosystem and ensuring that students receive quality education.
He said quality education requires a collective system involving the government, educators and community partners working together to support the development of students.
Shbini thanked LANDAS Samarahan for selecting the school as the programme venue, describing the initiative as a meaningful collaboration that reflects shared responsibility in nurturing students and strengthening the education community
