LIMBANG: Landslide-hit Jalan Buangsiol in Kampung Bukit Kota is expected to reopen to the public this Saturday.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said the Public Works Department (PWD) began cleanup operations immediately after the incident at the affected area.

He said the landslide, which occurred last Saturday, damaged the road structure and posed a safety risk to residents living nearby.

“To ensure the safety of residents, three families living near the landslide area have been instructed to temporarily relocate until the situation is completely safe.

“However, improving weather conditions after the rain stopped since last Saturday have helped stabilise the soil structure and enabled PWD to continue cleanup and repair works,” he said during a follow-up visit to the site on Tuesday (Mar 10).

Dr Abdul Rahman said among the works being carried out are the removal of debris and reshaping the hillside slope to strengthen the soil structure and reduce the risk of a recurrence.

He added that PWD is expected to begin laying stones on Wednesday before road resurfacing works commence on Thursday.

“The resurfacing work is expected to take one day before the road surface is left to stabilise. If everything goes smoothly, this route is expected to be reopened to road users as early as this Saturday,” he said.

He expressed appreciation to PWD for its swift response in addressing the incident to restore the smooth movement of residents in the area.

He said the landslide had forced residents to use longer alternative routes via Sibukang Bypass or Jalan Tujuh Batu Keliling.

“There are quite a number of residents in this area and some have voiced difficulties as they have to use longer routes.

“Therefore, we greatly appreciate the hard work of PWD in striving to complete these repair works within a short period,” he said.

He added that occupants of the three houses who were previously instructed to relocate will be allowed to return to their homes after the road is reopened.
